Overview
The goal of this course is to lead students to an understanding of the proper use of the Valspar Industrial Mix (VIM) system. Upon completion of the course, the class participants will have knowledge of the components that make up the system, as well as proper application and product usage. Application techniques will be observed and adjusted as needed focusing on high product performance and material usage while minimizing waste.
Lunch will be provided each day. Hours are 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. All class participants will receive personal safety equipment and product training materials for use and future reference.
Qualifications
This course is designed for shop technicians and those involved in automotive refinishing.

Course Objectives - Students completing this course will be able to:
- Identify hazardous chemicals
- Properly select and use appropriate safety procedures, and Personal Protective Equipment.
- Explain and perform proper substrate preparations within best practice standards
- Define benefits of one selected binder over the next, based on refinishing objectives
- Make color selections using Color Map Books and/or Spectrophometer
- Formula retrieval software overview
- Demonstrate proper packaging, chemical compatibility and storage of these refinish products
- Assess application environment and provisions
- Select and operate paint delivery and curing equipment
- Demonstrate proper application techniques for both solid and metallic single-stage colors
- Clean guns and properly dispose of any waste products
- Evaluate evident causes, cures and corrections presented by flaws in topcoats
- Improve performance of safe, environmentally compliant, efficient, and satisfactory refinish operations
